Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 versus Motorola Razr+ (2024)

Samsung is undoubtedly the king when it comes to foldables. The company recently announced their latest foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It is undoubtedly one of the most powerful smartphones today, but how does it fare against the competition? In this article, we’ll take a look at the Flip 6 versus the Razr+ (2024) from Motorola.

Design

Both phones are similar in design in the fact that they’re both foldable phones that have adopted the clamshell design. The Razr+ does have a more curved look to it thanks to the curvier edges, versus the Flip 6 which ditched the curved edges for something a bit more flat.

In terms of size, the Razr+ is bigger. It measures 171.4 x 74 x 7.1 mm when unfolded, while the Flip 6 is 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm unfolded. When folded up, the Razr+ measures 88.1 x 74 x 15.3 mm, while the Flip 6 comes in at 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9 mm. As you can see, the Flip 6 is slightly thinner by about 0.4mm. It is also slightly lighter by 2 grams.

If weight and thickness are important to you in a phone, then it is clear that the Flip 6 is the winner.

Display

There is a reason the Razr+ is bigger, thicker, and heavier versus the Flip 6. This is because in the display department, the Razr+ has a larger screen. The foldable display of the Razr+ measures 6.9-inches. It also has a resolution of 1080×2640 with a 165Hz refresh rate, an AMOLED panel with Dolby Vision support, a 165Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

The Flip 6, on the other hand, has a slightly smaller 6.7-inch display. The resolution is the same, but the refresh rate is slightly slower at 120Hz. Its brightness is also lower at 2,600 nits peak.

As for the external display, the Razr+ has a larger 4-inch display with a 165Hz refresh rate and 2,400 nits of peak brightness. The Flip 6 has a 3.4-inch display with a slightly higher peak brightness of 2,600 nits. If you value having a larger screen, both on the inside and outside, the Razr+ might be a better choice.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Flip 6 is the clear winner. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, while the Razr+ uses the slightly less powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. For day to day tasks, the differences are negligible. You might notice the difference when running more intensive applications, but for emails, surfing the web, watching videos, and chatting, probably not so much.

The Flip 6 also has the advantage of packing more RAM at 12GB, while the Razr+ only comes with 8GB of RAM. Both phones also rely on the same UFS 4.0 storage so read and write speeds should be similar.

Cameras

Samsung’s foldable phones have never really been known to sport particularly powerful cameras. The company did upgrade the main sensor of the Flip 6 to a 50MP main, but it is accompanied by the same 12MP ultrawide from the previous model.

The Razr+, however, features a dual 50MP setup with wider apertures which should be better for low-light photography. Its selfie cam also comes in at 32MP while the Flip 6 still packs a paltry 10MP.

Battery

When it comes to battery life, both the Flip 6 and Razr+ are pretty much the same. Both pack 4,000mAh batteries. This means that it will depend on how optimized the software is on both phones. The Razr+ does have a slight advantage at being able to charge faster thanks to its 45W wired charging speeds, versus the Flip 6 which only supports 25W.

Both phones also support 15W wireless charging speeds, but the Razr+ has support for 5W reverse wireless, while the Flip 6 is at 4.5W. We doubt the 0.5W will make a huge difference, but it’s something to consider.

Pricing & availability

When it comes to pricing, the Razr+ is a great value for money phone. It is priced starting at $899.99, while the Flip 6 is priced starting at $1,099.99. There are some areas the Flip 6 is better at, such as its performance where it packs a more powerful chipset and more RAM. But is this really worth the difference of $200?

It could be, especially for those who love the Samsung ecosystem and want to be able to use software features like Galaxy AI. But if you’re looking for a clamshell foldable phone, it’s hard to beat the asking price of the 2024 Motorola Razr+.
