Samsung has finally unveiled its newest lineup of devices, and there’s little doubt that the Galaxy Z Fold6 stole the spotlight during the Unpacked event. Samsung has more experience than the competition when it comes to foldable smartphones, tweaking and refining the technology with every new generation. While the competition from other brands has been heating up recently, Samsung seems poised to elevate its game even further and put it expertise on full display with the latest Galaxy Z Fold.
Like its predecessors, the Z Fold6 boasts a dual-screen design wrapped in a sleek chassis with IP48 protection. When unfolded, you’re greeted by a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex Display (quite a marketing mouthful) with a resolution of 2160 x 1856 and a pixel density of 374ppi.
Meanwhile, the cover screen measures 6.3 inches with an HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Display. When folded, the Z Fold6 is pretty compact at 68.1 x 153.5 x 12.1mm, and measures 132.6 x 153.5 x 5.6mm and weighs 239g when unfolded. The wider cover display makes a world of difference, making the Galaxy Fold6 far more usable than previous generations.
The overall look may be similar to last year’s phone, but Samsung’s design team has pulled some inspiration from the Galaxy S24 Ultra by squaring off the edges. It looks and feels more premium.
Beating inside the Z Fold6 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which works in tandem with up to 12GB of RAM and storage options that range from 256GB to 1TB. Keeping all of this powered up is a 4,400 mAh battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. The battery is bit small when compared to a typical flagship-tier smartphone, but with the new efficiency improvements fro the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the Fold6 should see a noticeable battery life improvement this year.
For cameras, the Z Fold6 is equipped with a pretty versatile setup. The cover screen features a 10MP selfie camera for convenient selfies and video calls, and there’s a 4MP under-display camera as well.
On the back, you’ll find a triple-camera system consisting of a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP wide-angle camera with features like dual-pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization for detailed close-ups, and a 10MP telephoto camera with phase detection autofocus, optical image stabilization, and 3x optical zoom.
Of course, the design of the phone allows the cameras to be far more versatile than what you get on a traditional device. With the hinge, you can prop the phone up so that it acts as its own tripod or you can use the cover display and take selfies with the rear cameras, making the Galaxy Z Fold6 the ultimate smartphone for selfies.
The Z Fold6 runs on Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 on top. On the surface, it may not look like much has changed, but lurking behind every corner, you’ll find that Samsung’s software team has crammed in dozens of new capabilities. The Galaxy Z Fold6 is overflowing with cool AI features that take Samsung’s foldable to a whole new level!
Speech-to-Text in Samsung Notes: Convert recorded lectures, interviews, or even your own voice memos into searchable text for efficient note-taking.
And that’s just a few of the highlights. The phone also uses AI to act as a translator on phone calls, optimize the battery life of the phone, in the voice recorder app for dictation and summarization and even with AutoZoom in the camera to make sure you’re always framed perfectly in the shot.
Samsung has truly leaned into AI with the Galaxy Z Fold6, making the phone more fun and easier to use.
While Samsung seems to have made minimal improvements to the exterior of the phone this year, the Galaxy Z Fold6 is a much different phone on the inside. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is incredibly powerful and should make this the foldable smartphone to beat if you’re looking for ultimate gaming performance.
The chipset is also the main reason Samsung has managed to cram so many AI features into the phone. While there are still quite a few AI features that run in the cloud, many of them run on-device, allowing them to run faster while also keeping your data safe.
If you want to pick one up for yourself, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 will be available in Silver Shadow, Pink, and Navy. Meanwhile, buyers can get exclusive colorways when they purchase the Z Fold6 via Samsung’s official website; it’s priced starting at $1,899.99.
