Netflix Accused of Forcing Users to Upgrade to a Paid Subscription

The past couple of years have been a pretty tumultuous period for users of streaming platforms, with a lot of companies raising prices and implementing some rather questionable decisions. Most recently, streaming giant Netflix came under fire following complaints from users, who claim that the platform is kicking off subscribers from its free ad-supported tier and forcing them to upgrade to a paid subscription.

The claims aren’t unfounded – back in January, Netflix made it known that it will be killing off the “basic” plan, prompting users to move to a paid subscription tier by July 13 in order to keep using the service. So far, users from the United Kingdom and Canada have reported that they’ve received a notification reminding them of the impending change.

If you’re considering moving to a paid Netflix plan, the Standard tier with ads costs $6.99 per month, while an ad-free plan is a bit more expensive going at $15.49 per month, and a more expensive Premium plan which rounds up to $22.99, with support for 4K content.

Will you be upgrading to a paid Netflix plan, or will you be moving to a different platform altogether? Lets us know in the comments below!
