Would you get a MediaTek powered Samsung Galaxy S25?
Samsung has typically gone for a mix of its Exynos chipsets and Qualcomm’s chipsets for its flagship phones. But come 2025, Samsung could actually be considering the use of MediaTek for the Galaxy S25 lineup.
This is according to a report from Korean publication The Financial News. The report suggests that Samsung is considering alternative chipsets and MediaTek could be one of them. There are several reasons for this. For starters, Samsung was planning to use its Exynos chipsets but due to poor yield, they might have to go with Qualcomm.
However, the problem with Qualcomm is that there are rumors that suggest that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could be considerably more expensive than its predecessor. This means that Samsung has to seek out an alternative. Going with an alternative could help Samsung in a couple of ways.
One of those ways is to reduce their overall costs. Another way is that it could help Samsung potentially negotiate better prices. If Qualcomm doesn’t want to lose their business to MediaTek, they could be forced to offer cheaper prices to keep Samsung as a customer. That being said, going with MediaTek isn’t such a bad thing. The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 series has proven to be quite a powerhouse and can hold its own.
We suppose there is branding to consider, where Western customers are probably more familiar with Qualcomm. Either way, it’s too early to tell if the Galaxy S25 will be powered by a MediaTek chipset, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
