The Samsung Galaxy S25 is launching next year. According to the rumors, Samsung is expected to maintain the quad camera setup for the Ultra model, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be hardware changes for the lineup. In fact, Samsung has unveiled a trio of new sensors, one of which has the potential to make its way into the Galaxy S25’s cameras.
These new sensors include the 200MP ISOCELL HP9, the 50MP ISOCELL JN5, and the 50MP ISOCELL GNJ. For context, one of these sensors isn’t new per se. The ISOCELL HP9 actually made its debut in the Vivo X100 Ultra, but the other two are pretty new. Just in case you’re wondering, the HP9 is a 1/1.4-inch sensor with 0.56-micron pixels. It boasts 12% better light capture and 10% better autofocus contrast. It also features 16-in-1 binning and supports 2x or 4x sensor zoom.
Next up is the ISOCELL JN5. This is a 50MP 1/2.76-inch sensor with 0.64-micron pixels. According to Samsung, they claim that this sensor can be used as the main camera’s sensor. It will also work with ultrawides, telephoto lenses, or a selfie cam. Basically it’s designed to be quite versatile. There is support for dual slope gain for single-frame HDR and has Super Quad Phase Detection autofocusing.
Last but not least is the ISOCELL GNJ. This is a 50MP sensor measuring 1/1.57-inches. This is close to the same size as the Galaxy S24’s cameras. This suggests that it could make its way to the base Galaxy S25 model. It features anti-refractive layers and has better pixel isolation material. Samsung claims that it is also more accurate when producing photos with shadows or darker areas.
At this point in time it’s just speculation as to what we can expect from the Galaxy S25’s cameras. Take it with a grain of salt, and hopefully we’ll have more details in the coming months.
