EU Users Might Miss Out on Apple’s AI Features
While a lot of iOS fans await the arrival of Apple’s AI features on iOS 18 (as well as its other device platforms), it looks like there’s a bit of disappointing news for users who live in the EU. It looks like a handful of Apple Intelligence features will not be available at launch due to regulatory limitations imposed by the EU.

Apple made a big deal of several new features during WWDC 2024 (a lot of which have already been available on Android years prior), although some might take a while to reach its users in the EU due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA). Speaking to the Financial Times, the company states:
Due to the regulatory uncertainties brought about by the Digital Markets Act, we do not believe that we will be able to roll out three of these [new] features — iPhone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen Sharing enhancements, and Apple Intelligence — to our EU users this year.
The EU’s DMA has been a thorn in Apple’s side for the past couple of years, although as a result it has forced the company to open up its infamously-closed ecosystem a bit more, allowing users access to app side-loading and retro game emulators, for example.
With that said, while features such as Genmoji, Image Playground, and Writing Tools are expected to arrive later in September (coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 16 series), DMA regulations mean that folks in the EU will miss out on these. At the moment, it’s unknown if and when these features will arrive for the region.
