The OnePlus “Glacier Battery” tech sounds quite exciting

0

The battery technology in our phones hasn’t changed much over the years. We’re still largely reliant on lithium-ion batteries. The only thing that has changed are the charging speeds. But now it seems that OnePlus could have something exciting in the works that they’re calling “Glacier Battery” technology.

According to a series of posts on Weibo by OnePlus, OnePlus has teased the upcoming battery technology. The company is said to be working with CATL, a battery manufacturer in China that specializes in creating batteries for electric vehicles. It is unclear what kind of battery tech we’ll be looking at here, but the teasers suggest that it could offer considerably longer battery life.

Additional information revealed by Digital Chat Station has suggested that the OnePlus Glacier Battery could have a 6,100mAh capacity. It also uses a new “silicon-carbon negative electrode” material. This has allowed OnePlus to reduce the thickness of the battery which improves its capacity. It is also said to support 100W charging.

The tipster also claims that the upcoming OnePlus Ace 3 Pro will be the first handset from the company to use this new Glacier Battery tech. Either way, hopefully we’ll have more details soon, so check back with us later for more updates.
