The ASUS ROG Ally X is Finally Here

There’s little doubt that the first-generation ROG Ally was one of the most-anticipated PC gaming handhelds in recent years, giving players an alternative to otherwise more “mainstream” devices such as the Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch. With that in mind, ASUS is looking to build on the momentum of the Ally with the new Ally X, which introduces some upgrades over the original.

It’s important to note thought that most of the changes are on the inside – the Ally X’s design remains mostly the same, and at first glance it might be a bit difficult to tell the X apart from the original. ASUS says that it has made some adjustments to the newer handheld’s physique, tweaking the contours for better handling.

Inside you’ll find the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, although this works in tandem with a newer 1TB SSD for larger storage space, alongside a redesigned motherboard which comes with an M.2 2280 slot for easy upgrading. There’s also a whopping 24GB of  DDR5-7500 RAM onboard, outsizing a good number of Windows laptops out on the market.

ASUS has also fitted the Ally X with a larger battery at 80Wh, which is a much-welcome upgrade over the one in the original model. It’s available right now for $799.99 at select retailers and via ASUS outlets.
