More Leaks Give a Sneak Peek on the Tensor G4

It only seemed like yesterday when the internet was flooded by a barrage of Pixel 8a leaks, and the trend once again continues – only this time, it’s the Pixel 9 under the spotlight, or more specifically, its Tensor chipset. While it’s expected that Google will be developing the Tensor G5 alongside TSMC, this year’s Tensor G4 is also rumored to get some considerable upgrades with regards to performance.

The chip’s benchmark scores were shared once again by Rozetked, which also gave us the first look at the Pixel 9. Based on the test results, the Tensor G4 comes with a 1+3+4 core configuration, headed by the Cortex-X4, three three middle Cortex-A720 cores and four little Cortex-A520 cores. As for the performance scores, the Pixel 9 (Tokay) achieved 1,016,167, while the Pixel 9 Pro (Caiman) ended up with 1,148,452, and the Pixel 9 Pro XL (Komodo) with 1,176,410. All of these outperform the Pixel 8’s 877,443 points.

By comparison, the first-gen Tensor chip (as well as the G2) shipped with a 2+2+4 core setup, while the G3 featured a 1+4+4 configuration. It’s also worth noting that the Cortex-X4 core is also found inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

As mentioned earlier, this might be the last year that Google develops a flagship chip with Samsung, a move that many are anticipating given the latter’s somewhat generally lacking fabrication output. On the other hand, these early scores are a nice send-off of sorts as well, although things might still change until October.
