Samsung to Slowly Phase-out its Tizen Smartwatches Soon

We suppose it was only a matter of time – given Samsung’s reformed commitment to working with Google on Wear OS hardware and software (including a widely-publicized team-up back in 2021), it looks like the South Korean electronics giant has finally begun sunsetting its Tizen-powered smartwatches, which have been out of production for a number of years now.

New reports indicate that Tizen OS will lose full support by 2025, with changes starting to take place today. As noted by the folks over at Android Authority, a Reddit user by the name Seaweed_Maximum shared several screenshots from a member of Samsung’s Galaxy Store Operations team, which lays out a timeline for various termination dates for Tizen watches:

This will affect all Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatches, as well as the Galaxy Watch 3, Watch Active and Watch Active 2. Going back to what was mentioned earlier, Samsung ditched its Tizen OS for smartwatches alongside the launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 series, which runs on Google’s Wear OS instead.
