We Put the Pixel 8a’s Cameras Against the iPhone 15 Pro Max

One thing that always stood out with Google Pixel smartphones is that regardless of price, they always managed to perform well when it came to mobile photography. While they’re not on the same level as dedicated cameras for example, they are a cut above most smartphones in the same price point, thanks to Google’s exceptional computational photography.

This remains the same for the Pixel 8a – while it does somewhat recycle last year’s camera hardware on the Pixel 7a, it is rather consistent as to the kind of photo quality you’d expect from a Pixel phone, despite the fact that it sits near the bottom bracket of the midrange smartphone market.

For this one, we thought that it’d be interesting to see how the Pixel 8a performs when compared to one of the most high-end smartphones in the industry, the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

In terms of hardware, Apple’s 2023 flagship phone comes with a 48MP main camera, aided by 12MP ultrawide and telephoto cameras, with the latter capable of up to 5x optical zoom. The front camera meanwhile features a 12MP resolution; by comparison, the Pixel 8a packs a more modest setup, with a 64MP primary camera, 13MP ultra wide camera, and a 13MP front-facing camera.
