While TikTok did not popularize short-form videos, they certainly helped make it a lot more popular these days. But now it looks like the company wants to pivot and start exploring the idea of longer form videos. This is according to a report from Matt Navarra who spotted TikTok testing out 60 minute long videos.
According to Navarra’s post on Threads, he shared a screenshot of a notification that revealed the ability to upload videos up to 60 minutes in length. For context, the current max length of a TikTok video is 30 minutes. The platform started by only allowing videos of up to 15 seconds in length.
They later expanded it to 1 minute, 3 minutes, and then 10 minutes. At some point, TikTok even tested out the idea of 30 minute videos. The possibility of expanding to 60 minutes is interesting. TikTok is largely known for its short-form content. Users who want longer form videos have alternative platforms such as YouTube.
It is unclear if TikTok will make 60 minute videos a thing, or if they’re simply testing the waters first. It will be interesting to see if TikTok’s platform has users who are willing to sit through 60 minute videos. But what do you think? Would you like to see 60 minute TikTok videos?
