Google announces second beta of Android 15
Google released the first Developer Preview of Android 15 earlier this year. That release was aimed more towards developers. The company later followed up with the first beta back in April. Now at I/O 2024, Google has announced the second beta of Android 15.
There are a bunch of new features that Google has announced as part of the second beta for Android 15. Some of those are aimed at developers who are looking to leverage these changes for their apps. But on the end-user front, here are some of the new features you can look forward to.
One of those new features is Private Space. This is where users can hide more sensitive apps on their phone. This means that if you pass someone your phone and they pull up the app gallery, they won’t be able to see those hidden apps. Apps designated under Private Space won’t show up under recents view or notifications.
Google is also showing more love to tablets in the second Android 15 beta. This comes in the form of improved multitasking for devices with larger screens, like tablets. Users can pin the taskbar on screen and save their favorite split-screen app combinations.
There are also improvements being made to the picture-in-picture mode. Users can also look forward to more secure background activity launches that prevent malicious apps from bringing other apps to the foreground.
Last but not least, Google is expanding on the availability of the Android 15 beta to more devices. The latest beta will now be available on compatible devices from Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Sharp, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi.
