TikTok confirms their own Instagram clone
It’s probably safe to say that it’s thanks to TikTok that short form videos really took off in the recent years following the decline of Vine. This has led to other social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and even YouTube to come up with their own takes on it. But now it looks like TikTok is launching a new app that would be an Instagram clone.
According to a report from TechCrunch, leaked screenshots have revealed TikTok’s upcoming app which is apparently going to be called TikTok Notes. The description says that this will be a new app for users to share their photos on. TikTok already allows users to post photos, but this app sounds like it will be a dedicated photo sharing platform.
TikTok has since confirmed the app’s existence, but said that it is not available yet. We actually heard about this development back in March where it was known as TikTok Photos. Back then the company did not say anything about it, but this new report basically confirms that it is in development.
It will be interesting to see how it fares against Instagram. Instagram is currently more or less the number one app for photo sharing. The company has tried to pivot on its strategy to offer up more short form content to compete with TikTok, but now TikTok’s clone app sounds like it wants a share of the Instagram pie.
