Google’s April Pixel Update has Finally Started Rolling Out

Following the news that it will be bringing over Circle to Search and Gemini Nano to more of its Pixel phones, Google recently announced that the April 2024 software update has started rolling out for compatible Google handsets. A statement on Google’s official support page reads:

We have started to roll out the monthly software update for April 2024. All supported Pixel devices running Android 14 will receive these software updates starting today, and the rollout will continue over the next week in phases, depending on carrier and device. You will receive a notification once the OTA is available for your device. We encourage you to check your Android version and update to receive the latest software.

As such, the software patch is available for devices from the Pixel 5a all the way up to the Pixel 8 series, as well as the Pixel Fold and Tablet. The update comes with several changes, including:

Biometrics
  • Fix for issue causing black screen to appear when unlocking screen in certain conditions
Camera
  • Fix for camera stability under certain conditions when switching between different zooms
  • Fix for issue with black halo artifacts appearing under certain conditions in the viewfinder upon transitioning from photo to video mode at 1x zoom
  • Fix for issue where users are unable to re-expose image after tapping anywhere on the viewfinder

Users can check for updates by heading into their Settings app, heading into System and taping on Software Updates.
