Google has been slowly introducing its Gemini AI to Android smartphones and its various products and services. But if there is one device that seems to be lacking Gemini support, it would be Android tablets. Thankfully it looks like that could change soon, according to a recent APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google.
According to the report, it specifically mentions Gemini as being a digital assistant on tablets. From what they can tell based on their preliminary findings, the Gemini experience on Android tablets seems to be similar to how Gemini looks like on the Pixel Fold. Given that the Pixel Fold is a smartphone-tablet hybrid, it makes sense.
Maybe Google will revamp the UI at a later date, but for now it seems to be similar to that of the Pixel Fold. They also found something interesting, which is that even after enabling Gemini, Google Assistant is still available. When the tablet is docked and users say the “Hey Google” phrase, Google Assistant will launch instead of Gemini.
It is unclear when Gemini support for Android tablets will launch, but it’s probably safe to assume that the Pixel Tablet will be amongst the first to get it. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for when that happens.
