Canva Announces Acquisition of Serif and its Affinity Software

Remember Canva, the app that specializes in creating logos and small graphic design projects? Well, the company has since grown a lot during its initial arrival on the scene, so much so that it recently announced its acquisition of Serif, a software developer known for its Affinity graphic design and desktop publishing software.

The acquisition was publicly announced earlier, and expands the lineup of software under the Canva brand. Cliff Obrecht, Co-Founder and COO at Canva writes:

“Today, we’re incredibly excited to welcome Affinity to the Canva team as we set our sights on empowering every kind of designer. Trusted by more than three million creative professionals across the globe, Affinity’s award-winning suite of professional design software has become a sought-after solution for everything from photo editing to complex graphic and vector design. Together, we’re setting our sights on empowering every kind of team and organization to achieve their goals.”

Canva says that its services have previously focused on giving users without formal design training an advantage when it came to graphic design projects and such. With Serif and Affinity joining its lineup, the company says that it’s looking forward to unlocking “the full spectrum of designers at every level and stage of the design journey.”

It seems that Canva is determined in strengthening both its brand and product offerings with the Affinity acquisition, as it now has a fully-fledged graphics editing software under its belt, giving users more options in the way of visual design and more – the full list of Serif software includes Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Publisher.

In addition to Affinity, other brands Canva has previously acquired include Flourish, Kaleido, SmartMockups, Pexels, Pixabay, and SlidesCarnival.
