Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 - Performance

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 delivers powerful AI features to midrange smartphone

Companies usually reserve bleeding edge tech for their flagship products. As a result, those who don’t have the money or don’t really see the need to pay a premium will have to wait and hope that the tech eventually trickles down. For those who tend to shop for mid-range handsets, you’ll be pleased to learn that’s exactly what happened with the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 chipset from Qualcomm.

Qualcomm has announced its latest mid-range chipset in the form of the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. The new chipset will come with a host of improvements. Qualcomm claims that it will see a boost in CPU performance by about 15% and also an increase in GPU performance by 45%. This means that mid-range devices will be better at playing games and handling more intensive applications.

That’s not all. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 introduced a bunch of AI features and capabilities, which Qualcomm is now bringing to its new mid-range chipset. With the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, it will be able to handle on-device generative AI. It can also support LLMs such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano and Zhipu ChatGLM. These are the same LLMs supported by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Mid-range devices can also look forward to improvements in photography, thanks to the use of 18-bit cognitive ISP. Users can also look forward to support for Wi-Fi 7 with HBS (High Band Simultaneous) Multi-Link.

According to Qualcomm, OEMs such as OnePlus, realme, and SHARP are amongst the first to adopt the new chipset. We’re not sure which phones will be using them but they are expected to be announced soon.
