If you recently opened your Facebook app on your phone (or computer) and were greeted by a log-in page despite never having logged out, then you’re alone – thousands of users worldwide have reported that they were kicked out of their Facebook and Instagram accounts, unable to to log back into their apps.
The outage also affected Messenger and Threads, both of which are part of Meta’s family of social networking apps. With that being said, the issue was resolved in a relatively short amount of time, as confirmed by Meta’s Communication Director Andy Stone. In an official post over at Twitter, Stone comments:
“Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
On one hand, the outage fortunately didn’t appear to affect Whatsapp. Nevertheless, the temporary loss of access to Meta’s suite of communication and social networking services did lead to fears of compromised user credentials and such.
