In an official announcement today, Spotify unveiled that it will be launching a new Audiobook Access tier, which gives listeners up to 15 hours of access to the platform’s large library of audiobooks (as much as 200,000 titles in fact). Spotify does add that the new subscription plan will cost $9.99 – as per Spotify’s announcement:
“Starting today, the Audiobooks Access Tier provides booklovers in the U.S. with 15 hours of listening from our audiobooks catalog of over 200,000 titles for $9.99 a month. With this plan and in one app experience, listeners can continue to tune into music and podcasts on our free, ad-supported service, offering a great option for literary enthusiasts who are looking for more audiobook-specific content.”
With that being said, Spotify’s audiobook library was made available to users earlier on via its Premium tier subscription, resulting in a 45% increase in free users looking for audiobook content to listen. Should a user opt exclusively for the new standalone plan, they will still be able to listen to music and podcasts via Spotify’s free tier, although this does of course come with ads.
