At this point, it’s become clear that no company – no matter how big or prestigious – is immune from the massive onslaught of lay offs that have continued to hit some of the biggest names in the tech and gaming industry. The most recent addition to this list is Sony, which recently announced that it will cut several hundred jobs from its PlayStation division.
More specifically, the Japanese entertainment giant is moving forward with its plan to lay off around 900 people, which comprises around 8% of its workforce – in addition, Sony’s entire PlayStation London studio will be shut down as well.

This development comes just weeks after gaming rival Microsoft’s decision to axe as much as 1,900 jobs from its Xbox division, which also affected key positions, including Blizzard Entertainment President Mike Ybarra and Blizzard’s Chief Design Officer and Co-founder Allen Adham.
Going back to Sony, the lay offs will affect employees from the many studios under the PlayStation brand, including Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Firesprite, and Insomniac. Jim Ryan, President & CEO at Sony Interactive Entertainment said in an official post described the decision as a “difficult day” for Sony and PlayStation.
