While most tech fans won’t remember OnePlus’ first ever smartwatch as the most unique or groundbreaking smart wearable device on the market at the time, that hasn’t stopped the company from attempting another go at a dedicated smartwatch offering. This time though it seems that OnePlus has learned its lesson, opting to go with Google’s Wear OS platform for round two.
Scheduled for a February 26 launch during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, OnePlus is confident that the Watch 2 will be a significant upgrade from its predecessor. Kinder Liu, COO and President of OnePlus states:
“After a three-year hiatus and a reflective pause following the OnePlus Watch 1, the Watch 2 re-emerged, and we are more confident than ever about this product. This confidence is not unfounded, it’s built on a foundation of substantial advancements in our technological ecosystem and capabilities. Watch 2 indicates our determination to transform from “Flagship Killer” to “Ecosystem builder”. It will provide you with experience that’s not just improved, but transformed.”
In addition to Wear OS 4, OnePlus has designed the Watch 2 to be available in two different color variants which include “Black Steel” and “Radiant Steel”, and will be presumably made from a stainless steel chassis. The company says that the Watch’s design is inspired by the OnePlus 12, which further symbolizes its role in the company’s existing device ecosystem alongside its phones, tablet, and audio products.
