While LG has been out of the smartphone game for a while now, the South Korean tech giant has continued to invest in other industries such as computing, home electronics, as well as automotive solutions, With that in mind, LG recently announced that it will expand its electric vehicle (EV) charger manufacturing to the United States, marking a first for the company.
More specifically, the company has opened its new 5,500-square meter facility in Fort Worth, Texas, which will be focused on producing EV chargers for North American regions, with an expected annual capacity of more than 10,000 units. Jang Ik-hwan, president of the LG Business Solutions Company states:
“By establishing our EV charger production factory in Texas, we will be able to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for EV infrastructure in the US… LG is dedicated to delivering uncompromising quality and will offer customers reliable EV charging solutions that combine efficient charger units with advanced control systems.”
LG says that it chose Texas for multiple strategic reasons, such as the ability to utilize existing facilities, as well as the state’s advantage in terms of transportation networks, to name a few.
Furthermore, the company has started assembling 11kW chargers at its Texas facility, and will begin production of 175kW fast chargers within the first half of 2024. LG is also expected to introduce a 350kW ultra-fast charger in 2024, expanding its EV current charger lineup.
