Back in the day, car companies made cars, while tech companies made tech like computers, phones, and so on. But these days, with technology blending in with each other, we’re starting to see more tech companies enter the automotive space.
Xiaomi is one of those companies and in a post on X, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun shared a teaser image of the company’s upcoming EV – the Xiaomi SU7. What’s interesting about this electric vehicle is that it will be powered by Xiaomi’s very own HyperOS platform.

For those unfamiliar, HyperOS is a version of Android that Xiaomi has started to introduce to its smartphones, with the goal to eventually replace MIUI which was what Xiaomi had previously used. While it might be viewed as a mobile platform for now, it shouldn’t be surprising that Xiaomi has plans to use it across its products.
Other companies like Huawei have also developed operating systems that are meant to be more than just a platform for mobile devices, integrating them into smart home devices and also cars. The Xiaomi SU7 will also be one of three EV models that the company has in development.
It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi’s efforts fare against some of the other more established players in the market, namely Tesla and also other Chinese EV makers like NIO and BYD.
