AI is all the rage these days and many companies are trying to harness the power and integrate it into their products and services. Spotify appears to be one of them. According to a report from TechCrunch, it looks like Spotify has started to test AI-powered playlists amongst a small group of users.
This feature was shown off in a short TikTok video posted by @robdad_ in which the caption for the feature says, “Turn your ideas into playlists using AI”. Spotify has since confirmed to TechCrunch that they are testing it out, but stopped short of mentioning how it will work, although based on the caption, we might have an idea.
If we’re right, it could basically be where users could use natural language to describe the kind of music they want to go in their playlist. Think of it as being similar when you walk into a record store and you ask the person behind the counter to recommend you some music based on your preferences or genres.
While music services like Spotify already make recommendations based on songs you listen to and have playlists for different moods or occasions, this AI-powered playlist could result in a more personalized list of songs. This is because while songs do have particular traits that allow them to be grouped in genres, not all songs are necessarily the same. For example, you have rock songs that are hard and fast, but at the same time, rock bands also put out rock ballads that are slow, so just because you’ve selected the “rock” genre doesn’t mean that all songs will be to your liking.
It’s actually a pretty cool idea if it works the way we think it will. It is unclear when it will roll out to users, but it might be something to look forward to.
