Google Maps just gained a new privacy feature that you should check out

Google Maps has a pretty nifty feature in the form of Timelines. This allows users who have Location History enabled to see where they’ve been. It’s pretty cool if you want to go down a trip down memory lane, but it can also be a bit of a privacy issue where other people might also be able to see it.

This is because the Google Maps Timeline feature is saved to the cloud, meaning that you can see it on your PC, on your tablet, or on your phone as long as you’re signed into the same Google account, but this will change in the latest update to Google Maps where Google is giving users the option to save their timeline on their device itself.

This means that should users choose to enable this feature, your Timeline will only be saved to your device like your phone. Should someone somehow access your computer and check Google Maps with your account, they won’t be able to see the new places that you have been.

Users can always choose to back it up to the cloud again if they want to sync their Timeline data. Google notes that your data will be encrypted anyway, so even if you choose to save it in the cloud, it cannot be read unless you’re signed into your account, but it’s always nice to have more privacy options.
