Google is no stranger to shuffling around its many apps and software services, with some meeting a more untimely end at times – that partly seems to be the case this time around, after the company recently announced some upcoming changes for Google Play Movies & TV content.

More specifically, Google recently announced that it will be “simplifying” how users can purchase and access their favorite TV shows and movies via Google. As a result, Google Play Movies & TV purchases will no longer be available on Android TV and Google Play. As per Google’s official support page:

…Google Play Movies & TV will no longer be available on Android TV devices or the Google Play website. However, you’ll still be able to access all of your previously purchased titles (including active rentals) on Android TV devices, Google TV devices, the Google TV mobile app (Android and iOS), and YouTube.

This change will take effect starting on January 17, 2024. Previous and newly purchased and rented titles will be accessible on the YouTube App for mobile and on web. Additionally, the Shop tab will display previously purchased titles, and can be accessed to buy and rent new movies on Android TV.

Google adds that the change will roll out in the coming weeks for different regions.
