PSA: Google will start deleting old Gmail accounts next week

0

Seeing as how long Google’s been around, chances are you might have several Google accounts under your name. If you recall, earlier this year Google announced that they will start deleting inactive accounts and that is expected to kick off next week, so if you have an inactive account, here’s what you need to do.

Google’s deletion process will involve everything related to the account. This includes Gmail, Google Drive files, Google Photos, and so on. To be considered an inactive account, it must have zero activity in the last 24 months before Google starts deleting these accounts in batches.

Some of you might have accounts like this, but you might not necessarily want to delete it as you might want to keep the name. All you need to do is ensure that your account is active, and that you need to make sure that you’re using it to send and receive emails, utilize Google Drive, and watch YouTube videos using it.

Google says that inactive accounts that have YouTube videos will not be deleted, so if you have uploaded videos to YouTube in the past with that account, you should be good. There’s no way to tell when your particular account will be deleted, so you best act quickly before you lose it for good!
