Huawei and Xiaomi were more popular than Apple on China’s Singles Day

0

Every year on the 11th of November, retailers in China host a massive sale known as 11.11, or also Singles Day. It is kind of the equivalent to Black Friday in the US where many products go on sale and are heavily discounted, allowing people to buy the things they had their eye on all year.

For this year, it looks like Huawei and Xiaomi proved to be very popular. So much so that they managed to beat out Apple’s iPhones in terms of sales. This is according to the data from Counterpoint Research where it was revealed that Apple actually saw a 4% decline in sales from the 30th of October to the 12th of November.

This is versus Huawei who saw an increase of sales of 66%, while Xiaomi saw their sales go up by 28% year-on-year over the same period. Huawei’s Mate 60 series turned out to be a huge hit and deservedly so. The latest handset sees Huawei use a custom chipset with 5G capabilities that allowed them to skirt around the US trade ban, which in turn saw it gain a lot of local support.

Apple’s iPhones have always been popular in China, but it looks like for Singles Day this year, they were beaten out by local companies like Huawei and Xiaomi.
