Google’s new Titan Security Keys come with passkeys support
There are various ways to protect our online accounts, with the most basic being the traditional username and password combo. The problem with this is that a lot of people tend to reuse passwords or use passwords that are simple to crack, which is why more robust methods like physical security keys are a more secure alternative.
If you’re thinking of getting one, you might be interested to learn that during the Aspen Cyber Summit, Google announced a new version of their Titan Security Key which comes in USB-A and USB-C variants, along with passkeys support.
For those unfamiliar with security keys, these are devices that are plugged into your computer’s USB port. While it remains plugged in, it authenticates the user when they log into websites, meaning that even if a hacker guessed your password, as long as they don’t have the key, they won’t be able to get in.
According to Google, the new Titan Security Keys can store more than 250 unique passkeys, and that the keys will continue to rely on the FIDO2 standard of security. If you’re interested in picking one up for yourself, they are priced at $30 for the USB-A version, and $35 for the USB-C version.
They’re currently not on sale yet but you can sign up to be on the waitlist via Google’s website and be notified when they are available.
