Adobe now supports RAW images taken with Google’s Pixel 8 cameras

0

A lot of smartphones have the ability to capture RAW images these days, but there is also the question of whether or not these images can be processed by popular/industry standard editing apps, like Adobe Photoshop.

The good news is that if you own either the Google Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, you might be interested to learn that Adobe Camera RAW now supports both phones. This means that editors who prefer to edit their photos using either Lightroom or Photoshop will be able to import their RAW image files taken by either phone and they will be recognized.

It also seems that Adobe will support the various lenses on the phones, meaning that each of the Pixel 8’s cameras will have its own RAW profile, which is pretty cool if you’re taking advantage of the different lenses for different types of effects or shots.

For those wondering why this is a big deal, RAW photos are generally preferred by professional photographers due to them being relatively unprocessed. This allows photographers and editors greater latitude when it comes to making edits, allowing them to finetune the image to their exact specifications to get the look they want, as opposed to having to deal with an image that has already been processed.

If you’re just an amateur photographer then shooting in JPEG is probably good enough, especially given how good Google’s camera software is already, but for professionals, the support for RAW will at least give them more options if they want it.
