It’s not uncommon to see people walking around with lanyards around their necks where their work ID hangs from. This is because most office buildings require users to use their IDs to tap in as a security measure, which also helps better restrict access to certain areas of a building.
These lanyards are fine, but they can be lost or employees might forget them, which is why if you have Google Wallet on your phone, you might be interested to learn that Google will soon allow users to add their workplace IDs to the app. This means that you will be able to pull up the ID anytime you want instead of having to rely on a physical copy.
This also helps to cut down on the number of physical cards people need to bring around with them on a daily basis. Right now, Google Wallet allows users to store things like government IDs, event tickets, boarding passes, and more, so if you’re looking to streamline your EDC, this update could be something to look forward to.
Of course, there is the issue that your phone could be potentially stolen or lost, but short of that happening this is still a pretty useful feature. There is no word on when these changes will be rolled out but we’ll keep an eye out for it.
