The trend of equipping premium smartphones with outstanding camera capabilities has seen no signs of slowing down, with manufacturers constantly porting over new and powerful hardware onto mobile devices. With that in mind, OPPO recently announced that it has entered into a joint venture with veteran camera manufacturer Hasselblad towards the development of new and powerful imaging systems.
More specifically, this collaboration aims to bring about the next-generation of HyperTone Camera systems, which OPPO targets to launch sometime in 2024. The systems will initially be made available in future OPPO Find series, which has always served as the company’s poster child for premium smartphone photography.
The HyperTone Camera system was initially included alongside flagships such as the OPPO Find X6 and the Find N3 foldable, and incorporates several technical elements including the HyperTone All Main Camera System, HyperTone Image Engine, and HyperTone ProXDR Display.
With the architecture included in the HyperTone Camera System, OPPO says that its phones are able to capture better quality images in different lighting conditions and focal lengths, better clarity and noise reduction with AI RAW Fusion, and even better photo viewing experiences with HyperTone ProXDR displays.
OPPO adds that users will also see big improvements to Hasselblad Portrait mode via the HyperTone Engine, such as improved color balance in portrait shots. OPPO adds that Hasselblad Portrait Mode offers more accurate skin tones as well (your move, Google) and comes with features like Bokeh Flare Portrait, which can create cinematic bokehs in images.
The partnership was announced by OPPO and Hasselblad during Paris Photo 2023, a large-scale event focused on professional photography.
