Not forgotten! Samsung Galaxy S10 receives surprise security patch

Official support for the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones ended earlier this year, meaning that officially, Samsung is no longer obligated to keep these devices updated, but it seems that maybe the company isn’t quite done supporting these devices just yet.

According to reports, it appears that the Samsung Galaxy S10 has received yet another update in the form of a security patch for September 2023. This update was rolled out in Mexico over the Telcel network.

At this point it is unclear if other Galaxy S10 models will receive this update, or if this is the update that was pushed out earlier this year in March, and that Telcel users of the phone are only receiving it now. If that’s the case, then non-Telcel Galaxy S10 owners probably shouldn’t expect it.

That being said, it’s not uncommon for companies to issue security patches to their phones even after official support has ended. Sometimes this could be due to a very severe security flaw or bug that needs to be patched ASAP, which is why every now and then, old phones still receive the odd security patch even though official support has ended.

Also, keep in mind that this is a security update which means that Galaxy S10 owners probably shouldn’t expect any major changes, but it’s not a bad thing to keep your device up to date against the latest threats and bugs.
