The prices of smartphones have gone through the roof in recent years, where buying a flagship phone for $1,000 is starting to become the (disturbing) norm. Luckily, if you’re in the market for a cheap smartphone, Oppo has you covered with their latest handset, the Oppo A2x.
There’s honestly not much to say about the Oppo A2x. The phone comes with a 6.56-inch LCD panel with a HD+ resolution, but on the upside it does boast a 90Hz refresh rate, making it better than more expensive models that still pack a 60Hz refresh rate as its default. It also has a peak brightness of 720 nits.
Under the hood, a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset can be found where it will be offered with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, along with 128GB or 256GB of storage. There is a microSD card for storage expansion, a bit of a rarity these days, so it’s nice to see that Oppo hasn’t ditched it completely yet.
As for the cameras, the Oppo A2x comes with a single 13MP camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and an LED flash, while the front-facing camera is of the 5MP variety. Once again, nothing to write home about. There is a 5,000mAh battery, support for fingerprint scanning, and there is also a 3.5mm headphone jack.
In terms of pricing, the base Oppo A2x will be priced at CNY1,099 which is roughly $150 after conversion, or CNY1,399 (~$190) for the model that comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There’s no word on international availability, so don’t get your hopes up just yet unless you get it from gray market imports.
