“Comet” could be Google’s next foldable Pixel phone

It wasn’t too long ago that Google officially launched their first-ever foldable smartphone, the Pixel Fold. It is one of the best foldable phones of 2023 given that it runs an optimized version of Android, plus the fact that it doesn’t sport a weird and narrow body unlike some of the competition makes it a bit more familiar to use.

But we imagine that Google’s foldable ambitions don’t end with the Pixel Fold. In fact, a recent APK teardown of the Google Pixel Buds app by the folks at 9to5Google might have revealed another foldable phone in the works.

The APK teardown has revealed a device with the codename “Comet”. Given that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have the “Shiba” and “Husky” codenames respectively, it is clear that “Comet” is not part of the Pixel 8 lineup. Further digging pointed at more evidence that it could be a foldable phone.

At this point it is unclear if “Comet” is the Pixel Fold 2, which will most likely launch in 2024, or if it could be the Pixel Flip. The latter does feel more likely given that most manufacturers who make foldables usually create two variations. We’re not sure when Google could announce this mysterious “Comet” handset, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
