We Might See non-Nokia Phones from HMD Global Soon

While the Nokia brand has been more or less associated with HMD Global in recent years thanks to the latter’s ownership of Nokia’s smartphone business, there always existed a certain boundary of sorts between the two names, especially when it came to Nokia’s product marketing. With that in mind, it looks like things are about to change, thanks to a new development on HMD Global’s behalf.

In particular, this news comes by way of an announcement from Jean-Francois Baril, Chairman & CEO at HMD Global Oy. As per his official post via LinkedIn:

I am thrilled to announce a significant milestone in HMD’s evolution – we are establishing an original HMD brand. You can expect to see a new portfolio of HMD branded mobile devices, as well as Nokia devices and collaboration with exciting new partners.

True to our values, HMD will continue to design for a more sustainable and affordable future for people. We will craft technology that is obsessed with the user experience and anticipates people’s needs.

Given that HMD Global has poured a considerable amount of resources towards Nokia’s mobile business over the past years, it should be interesting to see where HMD is headed with this new venture. Nothing specific has been announced at the moment however, so we’d recommend keeping an eye out for any future posts from HMD Global’s official pages.
