Right now, the foldable smartphone scene is pretty much limited to two form factors – the phone that can transform into a tablet, and a phone that can be folded open and close like the flip phones from the good old days.
Now, you might think that phones that transform into tablets would be more popular due to their dual use purpose, but data has shown that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip series, the flip form factor, is actually the more popular of the two. So much so that we can’t say we’re surprised to learn that Xiaomi could be cooking up something similar of their own.
This is according to a report from IT Home in which they discovered a device called the “Mix Flip” in the IMEI database, hinting that this is a new foldable phone that Xiaomi could be working on. The name itself is more or less a dead giveaway to its form factor, although the company has yet to officially announce anything.
If this is indeed the real deal, Xiaomi could be launching a phone that would compete against other similar devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series, the Oppo Find N Flip, Motorola Razr, and so on. Either way, we’ll keep our eyes peeled and hopefully Xiaomi will have something official to share soon.
