Pimax Launches the Portal Retro, its Newest Handheld Yet

Pimax is no stranger to handheld gaming consoles, having released a number of portable gaming systems under its belt. More recently, the company unveiled the Pimax Portal Retro, a lightweight variant of its Portal Handheld line.

The company describes the Portal Retro as being designed for retro gaming (as you can probably tell from the name), rather than VR software like its more powerful brethren. In terms of hardware, it comes with a 5.46-inch 2K resolution display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chipset, and24 different physical buttons which are re-mappable.

The device also runs on Android, which means that users can access a ton of different retro emulation apps as well as mobile games. Other hardware details include 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, an active cooling system, as well as Bluetooth connectivity.

There are some omissions however, such as the lack of a 4K QLED screen (the Portal Retro goes for LCD instead), no detachable controllers, and as mentioned earlier, the absence of VR. The Pimax Portal Retro will be available for $299.
