How to add wireless charging to the Poco M5
The Poco M5 is a great smartphone if you’re looking for an affordable Android phone. It features pretty decent specs considering how much you’re paying for the phone, but of course with all budget devices, sometimes certain sacrifices have to be made in order to bring the price down.
In the case of the Poco M5, the company has opted not to include wireless charging tech. Luckily, if wireless charging is what you want/need, you can actually retrofit the tech to the Poco M5 and it won’t cost you that much, so here’s what you’ll need to do if you want to add wireless charging to the Poco M5.
What you will need
To give your Poco M5 wireless charging, you will need a couple of accessories to start:
- A wireless charging adapter
- A wireless charger

Since the Poco M5 lacks wireless charging, one of the accessories you’ll need is a wireless charging adapter. These are basically the same wireless charging coils that you might find in a phone with wireless charging. The only difference is that these coils are now placed on the outside of the phone instead of inside.
They will connect to your phone via its USB-C port and when used together with a wireless charger, it will charge your phone wirelessly. The only problem is that it uses your phone’s USB-C port which means that if you need to connect other devices, like a power bank, an external drive, or wired headphones that use a USB-C connection, you can’t while the adapter is attached.
But if you don’t really see yourself using the port other than for charging purposes, then we guess it won’t be that big of a deal.

Now that you’ve gotten a wireless charging adapter, you will need a wireless charging mat to charge your phone on. If you’re new to wireless charging and don’t already have one lying around at home or the office, then these are some charging mats you might be interested in checking out:

As we mentioned previously, since the phone lacks native wireless charging, you’re pretty much at the mercy of what third-party charging accessories have to offer. In most cases it can be pretty slow, especially when you consider the fact that there are phones with native wireless charging that can go as fast as 50W, but like we said, if the convenience of going wireless is something you must have, then this is the compromise you’ll have to make.
