Chinese manufacturer Huawei is known to work on a lot of different products including smartphones, wearables and even laptops, and it looks like we can expect to see the company’s branding on a new electric vehicle soon.
It’s reported that Huawei’s Zhixuan automotive brand will be launching its first all-electric coupe soon, a result of the company’s joint collaboration with Chery, an automobile manufacturer in China.
Richard Yu, managing director and CEO of Huawei’s smart car solutions business unit stated that the car will come with an OS based on HarmonyOS 4, itself based on Android. Yu teased that the vehicle will feature “a disruptive design language that delivers an imagination-breaking coupe experience”. The announcement was made via Weibo, a Chinese social networking site.
Not much is known about the vehicle at the moment other than its integration with HarmonyOS, although it looks like the vehicle will bear the “LUXEED” branding, based on an initial photo render. Huawei has previously worked with automobile manufacturers such as Seres, resulting in the “AITO” brand which currently sells the M5 and M7 SUVs
With that being said, Huawei will be more involved with its Zhixuan brand, which will see automobiles sold via Huawei’s distribution channels. The LUXEED is expected to be announced sometimes this quarter.
