The vast majority of messaging apps out there allow users to send voice messages at a tap of a button. This means that users can quickly make a voice recording and send it straightaway, perfect for those moments where you can’t be bothered or are too busy to type out messages.
Now it looks like WhatsApp is gaining the ability to send a different type of instant message – videos! The company has announced that they are in the process of rolling out an update to the app which will allow users to send instant video messages the same way they would a voice message.
The main difference here is that users won’t have to launch a separate app, like their phone’s camera app, to record a video first before sending it. They just need to tap the voice message icon and select video and hold it down and start recording, and when they’re done, it’ll send it straightaway!
If this sounds familiar, it is because it is similar to Telegram’s own instant video messages. Video messages sent will be muted by default so that when you open the message it won’t suddenly start playing. WhatsApp notes that similar to regular messages, all video messages will also be end-to-end encrypted.
If you don’t see the feature yet, don’t worry as WhatsApp is in the process of rolling it out and they expect it to be available to all in the next few weeks.
