Xiaomi Launches yet Another Redmi 12 Variant for Indian Markets

Another week, another new Xiaomi phone – at this point, new Redmi device launches shouldn’t surprise anyone, given the brand’s tendency to release multiple variants of the same device. With that in mind, Xiaomi has announced a new Redmi 12 5G model, following the debut of the 4G variant a while back.

In terms of hardware, the Redmi 12 5G features a 6.79-inch LCD screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. There’s also a 5,000 mAh battery inside with support for 18W charging speeds. One of the biggest differences is that the new Redmi 12 5G will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, and will come with some similarities to the  Chinese-exclusive Redmi Note 12R, save for the front-facing camera.

For optics, the 5G Redmi 12 comes with a 50 MP f/1.8 main lens, alongside a 2 MP f/2.4 macro camera, and an 8 MP f/2.0 camera for selfies and video calls. Other details include a 3.5mm headphone jack, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, MIUI 14 and Android 13, IP53 certification, as well as three different color variants, which include Blue, Black, and Silver.

The handset is scheduled to launch in India on August 4, and will be priced starting at around $133 for the base model with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, although there’s a maxed-out version with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which goes for around $175.
