Geekom’s AS 6 proves that all good things come in small packages

When it comes to small form factor PCs, no one does it better than Geekom. It is essentially what the company specializes in. Sure, you could always custom-build your own SFF PC, but chances are you might end up spending more money and end up with something bigger than you started.

This is because the problem with SFF PCs is that most PC component makers design their parts with larger cases in mind, which in turn limits your options when it comes to things like your GPU, PSU, motherboard, cooling, and so on. If you’re looking to avoid the hassle but still want all that power, then Geekom’s AS 6 might be the perfect SFF PC for you.

Small but deadly

Like we said, SFF PCs are pretty much Geekom’s specialty and the AS 6 is no exception. The PC itself measures 120 x 130 x 58 mm and weighs just under 1kg, making it extremely small and extremely light, but don’t let its size fool you.

Under the hood, the Geekom AS 6 packs a ton of power, which we will get to in a bit, a robust cooling system, and graphics powered by AMD’s Radeon GPU technology. It is even built like a tank with MIL-STD-810H certification, which means that it can not only withstand extreme temperatures, but it can withstand drops, bumps, and constant vibrations.

If for whatever reason you need to take it with you on the go, you don’t have to worry about it breaking.

Also, despite it being super small, the Geekom AS 6 comes with a ton of ports for pretty much everything you need. There are USB-C and USB-A ports on the front along with an audio jack, and on the back, you can find HDMI ports, DisplayPorts, more USB-A and USB-C ports, as well as a 2.5G RJ45 LAN port that will give you blazing fast internet connections.

If you prefer a wireless connection, however, the AS 6 will support wireless protocols like Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6E, so you can run this PC almost entirely wireless and you probably won’t notice any difference in latency.

Quiet and powerful

Now, one of the chief concerns people have about SFF PCs is that they won’t be as powerful as regular-sized PCs. To a certain extent we get it. Larger PCs means users can fit in larger sized GPUs that offer better cooling. Larger cases also gives users more options for PSUs, hard drives, and even liquid cooling, but unless you’re looking for something with bleeding edge tech and performance, the Geekom AS 6 is more than capable of handling itself.

Users will have the choice of either the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX or Ryzen 7 6800H CPU, both of which are incredibly powerful and offer 8-cores, 16 threads, along with a 16MB cache.  The main differences would be in their clock speeds, where the Ryzen 9 6900HX has a base clock speed of 3.3GHz, but can be boosted up to 4.9GHz, while the Ryzen 7 6800H has a base of 3.2GHz and can be boosted to 4.7GHz.

All configurations will feature 32GB of RAM, which honestly is more than enough for day-to-day tasks, and well within the requirements if you need to do something that might be a bit more intensive.

They all also feature 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs, which you can expand to 2TB if you prefer, which will be capable of delivering super fast read and write speeds while keeping the overall footprint of the PC small.

In terms of cooling, Geekom has equipped the AS 6 with their own innovative cooling system that runs extremely quiet, so it won’t be distracting if you’re working or gaming. According to Geekom’s tests, in idle mode the AS 6 has a loudness of 25dB, while at full load, it measures at 35dB. It also has smart fan controls, a large heat sink, and for those concerned about dust gathering inside the PC and the vents, there is an anti-dust self-cleaning system that can eject dust.

Radeon-powered graphics

Now, given that this is an AMD powered PC, it’s not surprising that it is also powered by AMD Radeon graphics. It comes with the AMD Radeon Graphics 680M GPU, which Geekom says has performance equivalent to NVIDIA’s GTX 1050TI, which is admittedly kind of an old GPU, but given that the 680M is an integrated GPU, it’s actually kind of impressive.

This means that for the most part, the AS 6 will be more than sufficient for daily productivity tasks, surfing the web, watching videos, and so on. But if you need to squeeze more power out of it, maybe for work or gaming, that’s a non-issue either. Users will be able to run professional-grade editing software or play modern games. They will also be able to stream up to 8K videos, stream, or even enter the metaverse. In fact, if you’re someone that works with multiple displays, the Geekom AS 6 will be capable of supporting four 4K displays at once! Most people usually run 1-2 displays at once, which means that the AS 6 has enough headroom where if you need more, it’ll be available for you.
