WhatsApp is making it easier for users to link multiple devices together

If you use WhatsApp, there’s a chance that you might also use it on another device like your PC so that you can continue to chat with people even while at your computer. Right now, WhatsApp largely relies on QR codes that users have to scan before they can link devices up together.

It works, but it’s not the most elegant solution, but that could change soon. A report from WABetaInfo has revealed that WhatsApp is now testing out a new way for users to link their devices together without the need to scan QR codes.

Instead, it appears that WhatsApp could be planning to switch to one-time codes, where when users try to link devices together, WhatsApp will generate a OTP that verifies the user, and then once the code is entered, the devices will be linked. This will be done using the user’s primary phone number, where the code will be sent to.

As WABetaInfo notes, this could be useful in instances where the user’s phone’s camera might not be working. This seems like a pretty rare scenario, but we suppose it could still happen and having an alternate way of linking devices together isn’t a bad thing. Right now, the feature is being tested with select beta users so don’t expect to see it available anytime soon.
