Samsung Patent Points to Sliding Screen Design
Samsung’s efforts towards the development and marketing of foldable smartphones has been a success so to speak, and the company’s Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip device family has only gotten better through the years. With that in mind, it looks like Samsung is also looking into other means of adding flexible displays to Android hardware.
With that in mind, Samsung is reportedly working on means to give users a more comfortable experience while controlling and handling a flexible display. According to a report from tech site Pigtou (in collaboration with @xleaks7), the company is developing a flexible screen that can be extended by sliding, as seen on several design patents.
Based on a number of diagrams, the company is working on a system where the device’s functions can be controlled by user inputs on the rear panel itself. By allowing access to tap, press, and drag gestures on the back of the phone, a device using a flexible display such as this can be easily handled by the user.
The Rear Touch Function can be turned on or off via the phone’s software settings, which include corresponding controls for tapping and dragging to move onscreen objects, double-taps and long presses to select objects, and double tapping and pressing and dragging to scroll. Of course at the moment, there’s no mention of when or if we’ll see this on a Samsung phone anytime soon, but only time will tell.
