Red Magic 8S Pro debuts with brand new Qualcomm chipset

0

Back in 2022, Qualcomm launched a variant of its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in the form of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is why we wouldn’t have been surprised if the company followed up this year with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2, and sure enough they have with Nubia’s latest Red Magic smartphone being the first to make use of it.

Nubia has announced the Red Magic 8S Pro, a gaming smartphone, which to our knowledge is the first smartphone in the world to use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chipset, offering users a faster experience compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which was largely used by flagships in 2023.

In terms of performance, the use of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 features faster clock speeds from 3.2GHz to 3.36GHz, while its GPU has also been improved from 680MHz to 719MHz.

As for the rest of the specs, the phone packs a massive 6.8-inch AMOLED display with 2480×1116 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. There are also built-in shoulder triggers, and the phone is accompanied by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

Nubia has also included the ICE 12 cooling system which has a 5W/mK thermal paste, improved air ducts and fans. The Red Magic 8S Pro also features a 6,000mAh battery with 165W charging, and in the camera department, we’re looking at a 50MP main shooter with a 16MP shooter on the front.

The phone has been initially launched in China and will be sold starting on the 11th of July (with pre-orders going live today) and will be priced starting at $550. There are plans to launch it internationally, but that will take place at a later date on the 27th of July.
