When it comes to speed on our phones, there are several things that can affect it. Obviously the processor and its cores and clock speed matters, as well as how much RAM we have. But then there is also storage, where slow storage can result in files taking longer to be accessed or written to your phone.
Imagine taking a photo or video only for your phone to take a while to save it, which is why sometimes the type of storage matters. That being said, the folks at Micron have announced their latest UFS 4.0 storage module for phones, which they claim will be able to deliver the fastest performance yet.
This is because the company’s latest offering is built on 232-layer 3D NAND technology. There will be several storage sizes offered, such as 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. With the 512GB and 1TB models, users can look forward to sequential read speeds of up to 4,300MB/s, and write speeds of up to 4,000MB/s.
With the use of this 232-layer 3D NAND technology, not only will it allow for faster read and write speeds, but it will also be more power efficient, which means that it will drain less of your phone’s battery. Micron’s latest storage modules are expected to enter mass production in the second half of 2023, although it remains to be seen which brands will be integrating it into their devices.
