Spotify’s hi-fi plans might have been revived and could be launching soon

Some of you might recall that a while back, Spotify was getting ready to launch a new subscription tier that would basically allow users to stream music at higher quality levels, but the company ultimately shelved those plans.

It looks like those plans could be back on the table, according to a report from Bloomberg, who claims that Spotify’s new subscription tier is getting ready for a launch which could take place as soon as October. It is expected to launch in the US first, but it will eventually be available to other markets.

This new tier is said to allow users to stream CD-quality sound, but it is unclear how much it is expected to cost. At the moment, Spotify’s Premium tier is priced at $10 a month, so we imagine this hi-fi tier will probably cost more, but exactly how much more is anyone’s guess.

That being said, it will be interesting to see how it is received. This is because Apple launched a similar feature of their own with Apple Music, but the main difference is that Apple’s offering is actually “free” in the sense that as long as you’re subscribed to Apple Music, you can access the higher quality streams as part of your subscription.

If the October launch is accurate, then we should expect to hear more about this plan in the coming months.
