The Moto Razr 40 Ultra might not be as water-resistant as we hoped

Back in the day, phones that offered water-resistance were usually limited to devices designed to be “rugged”, but these days, a water-resistance rating of IPX8 seems to be more or less the norm, especially amongst flagship phones.

Unfortunately, that might not be the case with Motorola’s upcoming Razr 40 Ultra smartphone. This is according to a leaked spec sheet shared on Twitter by tipster SnoopyTech, in which the spec sheet reveals that the Razr 40 Ultra might only have an IP52 rating.

For those unfamiliar, the IP rating stands for ingress protection, with the first digit corresponding to dust-resistance, while the second digit stands for water-resistance. With the Razr 40 Ultra sporting a “2” for water-resistance, it means that it will be able to withstand direct sprays of water up to 15 degrees from the vertical.

This means that the handset will be water-resistant to a certain degree, but that’s about it. In a way it’s kind of disappointing, especially when you consider that other foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Fold 4 are both IPX8 in the water-resistant department. So if you plan on getting the Razr 40 Ultra, you might want to take extra precautions when around water like at the beach or at the pool.

The handset is expected to be officially announced in the near future so we should have more details soon.
